what is an edible?
the term edible is commonly used to refer to infused treats that usually contain cannabinoids and/or other herbal ingredients.
when it comes to our edibles, we have two formulations:
- "regular" or fat-soluble
- nano-emulsified or water-soluble
the formulation you choose can directly affect the strength & duration of your edible experience, so choose wisely.
"regular" (fat-soluble) edibles
fat-soluble edibles are the most common type of edible on the market. most chocolates, gummies, & caramels contain a fat-soluble formulation.
when an edible is fat-soluble, the cannabinoids are absorbed into your bloodstream by dissolving into fat cells. because they aren't absorbed directly into the bloodstream, the effects of fat-soluble edibles take longer to appear, and are slightly weaker than water-soluble edibles.
nano-emulsified (water-soluble) edibles
nano-emulsified or water-soluble edibles are less common in the market, but more powerful in terms of effectiveness.
nano-emulsified edibles are introduced directly into the bloodstream, instead of being dissolved into fat cells. this process is much quicker- meaning you can feel the effects of your edible much quicker with a water-soluble formula.
a water-soluble formula also provides higher bioavailability than a fat-soluble formula. when a product has high bioavailability, more of the product is absorbed into your system. for example: imagine you have two edibles of the same strength, edible A contains a water-soluble formula (high bioavailability), while edible B contains a fat soluble formula (low bioavailability). you will feel the effects of edible A faster & stronger than edible B because the bioavailability of the product allows better absorption into your bloodstream.
when purchasing hemp products, the term method of consumption often comes up. a method of consumption is the way in which you consume cannabinoids. whether its through eating, smoking, or even topically, there are pros & cons to each method.
why people choose edibles over other methods of consumption:
longer-lasting effects: since edibles are processed through your digestive system, they tend to remain in your system much longer than vaping or smoking, making for a longer duration of effects.
precise dosing: when you take an edible, you can measure your dose easily. this allows you to be in much more control over your experience and how much you consume.
discreet & hassle-free: one of the most common reasons people choose edibles is because they can be taken discreetly. edibles are a great option for those who are a little more secretive about their consumption (don't worry we won't tell).
no smell, delicious flavor: some people just don't like the smell & taste of the smoke...and that's okay! for some, a creamy chocolate or sweet gummy is a much more enjoyable method of consumption.
the most important thing to remember when taking edibles is that everyone is different. everyone's tolerance to THC or CBD varies depending on a variety of factors such as height, weight, & frequency of use. the best way to find what dose works for you is with our "mindful method" of consumption.
the mindful method
the mindful method of consumption is a responsible way to consume cannabinoids (especially THC). the first time you take an edible, start at a low dose (1-10mg) & slowly increase/decrease the amount you take by 1-5mg each time you take another. pretty soon, you'll find your perfect dose for the effect you want!
a mindful dosing guide
1 - 5mg (microdose): a light dose that can provide relief for some users, but rarely involves the effects of intoxication.
5 - 10mg (low): a light dose that is effective for providing relief from ailments & a light intoxication.
10 - 15mg (average): an average dose for recreational intoxication & relief from ailments.
15 - 30mg (high): used for more intense relief from ailments & recreational users with a higher tolerance
30 - 50mg (pro): used for more intense relief from ailments & daily users with a higher tolerance
50mg+ (expert): you do you
at hive & mind, all of our edibles are specially crafted with a function in mind. we recognize that people have different ingredient preferences & we want to meet that. so, we formulated two collections of the same edibles, in herbal & cannabinoid blends.
herbal gummies
our herbal gummies contain a similar blend of ingredients as our cannabinoid gummies, just without the cannabinoids. so you can enjoy the same gummies, but without any CBD or THC!
these gummies are best enjoyed as a daily supplement.
cannabinoid gummies
our cannabinoid gummies are the same blend of ingredients as our herbal gummies, but with added cannabinoids for an enhanced effect.
these gummies can be taken supplementally or as needed.
new to edibles?
don't be afraid! we've all been there, and we're here to help you have a great first experience with edibles. here's a few things we wish we would've known our first time:
1. find your safe space
if you've never tried an edible before, it's best to try it somewhere you feel safe, relaxed, & comfortable. we recommend at home, on the couch, with some snacks of course.
2. take less than you want to
no, you shouldn't take a 20mg edible for your first time. it will not be as fun as you think. many people only need around 5-10mg of THC to feel intoxicating effects.
3. don't take another one
still don't feel anything after an hour? do not take that second half of your gummy. this is by far the most common mistake people make when taking edibles. taking another edible on top of one you've already taken can hit hard. to avoid getting "too high" just wait until next time and raise your dose.
4. remember to relax
sometimes people can get anxious when waiting for an edible to start working. just remember to relax and let the effects wash over you.
